  Day 1

Following your arrival in Sri Lanka, you will proceed to Colombo, which is roughly an hour’s drive away in one of our chauffer driven cars. In the evening, we will experience the tranquility of the Gangarama Buddhist Temple, followed by a shopping tour of Colombo, which includes ODEL, paradise road, House of Fashion shopping complexes as well as a few jewelers.

    Gangarama Buddhist Temple:
The temple, situated on the tranquil waters of Beira Lake has been in existence for over 120 years and was founded by Venerable Hikkaduwe Sri Sumangala Nayaka Thera. It is an assembly point for monks and a landmark of the capital city of Colombo. Today Gangaramaya serves not only as a place of Buddhist worship, but also as a center for learning. The temple has also been instrumental in helping to propagate the Dhamma in other countries such as the United States, United Kingdom and Tanzania.

  Day 2

After breakfast, we will drive to Kandy and visit the Pinnawala elephant orphanage on the way there.

    Pinnawela Elephant Orphanage:
The orphanage, which is situated in the northwestern town of Kegalle was originally founded to provide care and support for the many orphaned elephants in the jungle. Since then the orphanage has also become a breeding ground for elephants. The orphanage is thought to have the largest heard of captive elephants in the world. Most elephants found in the orphanage are healthy. However, there are a few exceptions, such as the elephant named Sama, who lost her front right leg to a land mine. Tourists visiting the orphanage will be given the wonderful opportunity to touch and take pictures with the elephants as well as to feed them milk.

    Temple of the Tooth Relic:
The sacred Tooth Relic of the Buddha is the most venerated object for Buddhists around the world and its present house, the Temple of the Tooth Relic in Kandy is considered to be the foremost sacred place of worship for all Buddhists. The tooth relic has played an important role in the politics and governance of ancient Sri Lanka, as it was then believed that whoever possesses the sacred relic has the divine right to rule the country. As a result many battles were fought to earn the right to possess the sacred tooth relic. Today, the relic is placed within this temple and is enshrined in seven golden caskets, which takes the shape of a stupa and is engraved with precious gemstone.

  Day 3 & 4

After breakfast, we will hop on a city tour and visit the Kandy museum and the Peradeniya Botanical Gardens.

    The Royal Botanical Gardens Peradeniya:
The garden spreads across 147 acres and is 460 meters above sea falls. The garden experiences roughly 200 days of annual rain fall. It is home to over 300 varieties of orchids, spices, medical plants and palm trees. There is also a large concentration of fruit bats often seen flying around or resting in trees. The park is a perfect place for a sense of tranquility in a bustling city.

    Nuwara Eliya:
Nuwara Eliya, meaning the city of light is a town in the central highlands of Sri Lanka and is popular for its tea production. It is located at an altitude of 1860 meters. The city provides breathtaking views of valleys, meadows, mountains and greenery. Due to the high altitude, the city sported the perfect climate for British civil servants and planters when the British colonized Sri Lanka. Even today, the city once called little England is true to the British culture through events such as horse races. The hotels and buildings within the city maintain the colonial architecture with fireplaces, British style open gardens and lawns.

    Ramboda Waterfall:
The Ramboda waterfall stands at a height of 109 meters and is ranked 729 among the world’s tallest waterfalls. Ramboda falls below the Ramboda Bridge and is therefore invisible to the main road. As a result, most tourists tend to miss this breathtaking sight.

  Day 5

After breakfast, explore the Horton Planes Nature Reserve and the Hukgala Botanical gardens with our naturalist.

    Horton Planes:
The Horton Planes park is a protected area that lies at an altitude of roughly 2100 mteres and was designated a national park in 1988. The plains are the headwaters of three main Sri Lankan rivers, Kelani, Walawe and Mahaweli. The park is home to many species of mammals, reptiles, birds and amphibians. Currently the most commonly seen mammal is the Sambar deer and some argue that the number of this deer type in the park is greater than its carrying capacity. The park is also an important bird area since you find many birds that are not only endemic to Sri Lanka but also restricted to the park.

    Haggala Botanical Gardens:
The Gardens spread across 27 hectare acres were established in 1860 as an experimental Cinchona plantation from which the anti-malarial drug quinine is derived. Subsequently the gardens were used for experiments in acclimatizing temperate-zone plants to life in tropics. Today Hakgala`s gardens of roses, shrubs, ferns and montane woodland are delightfully located in salubrious environment, with small streams running across and wooden bridges built over them with birds flying all over

  Day 6

After breakfast, proceed to Kitulgala, which is a short drive away. Once there, go whitewater rafting on the Kelani river.

    Kitulgala:
Kitulgala is in the wet zone rain forest, which gets two monsoons each year, and is one of the wettest places in the country. Nevertheless, it comes alive in the first three months of the year, especially in February, the driest month. The Academy Award-winning ‘The Bridge on the River Kwai’ was filmed on the Kelani River near Kitulgala, although nothing remains now except the concrete foundations for the bridge. Kitulgala is also a base f or white-water rafting, which starts a few kilometers upstream.
